Hello creative friends,
The current CAS Watercolor Challenge asks for sunflowers and since I love them and had some time this weekend I decided to see what I could come up with. I picked a very old stamp featuring a framed mosaic sunflower that I hadn't used in a very long time. And then I couldn't stop playing with it!
On the first card I colored it with markers and spritzed it with water to create a watercolor look. Because I used watercolor paper that wasn't bright white I used a kraft card base, added a little stenciling, a little spritzing, and a small sentiment.

When I used this stamp in the past I always colored the frame in blue because this color combo makes me so happy. I thought I was done but then I began wondering how it would look like with a green frame... So I pulled everything out again and had to try it. I have to say I really like the fresh look. It's almost as if it is surrounded by leaves... Since I liked the stencil (doesn't it mimic the mosaic style of the stamp?), I kept the layout, etc. the same, just changing the sentiment.
Stamps: Rubber Stampede (sunflower frame), Hero Arts (both sentiments)
Other: Memory Box (stencil)
After all the spritzing I was curious how it would look when I colored it with markers and huffed on it (anybody remember that "technique"?). The colors are not as vibrant as when you spritz them with water but I still liked it. Since I used regular card stock I was able to use a white card base using the same stencil with some embossing paste.
Stamps and Stencil see above. The sentiment is from Print Works.
I had so much fun inking and spritzing this stamp that I ended up making three simple bookmarks with it! Sorry, forgot to take a picture but it's basically the image on a strip of watercolor and some ribbon on top.

You were certainly inspired, Susanne! I love all the versions! The green frame is a neat change & I love the wavy sentiment, but the last card with the embossing paste background really draws me in!
Isn't it fun to pull out an old stamp and have a big play with it??!! You made three very beautiful cards Susanne!! LOVE the design ... the soft stenciling on your kraft card bases is just perfect. As is the embossing paste through the same stencil on your white card. I do remember "huffing" but haven't done that for a while. :) Fantastic results! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour! xx
A gorgeous trio, Susanne ... what wonderful experimenting and playing you did with that fabulous sunflower ... it's amazing how different (and lovely!) each one looks with a change in treatment and background! They look just like the fields round here did a few weeks ago! Hugs, Anita :)
What a lovely trio of cards Susanne and I bet the bookmarks look great too. I love how you produced different looks using very similar materials - you can't get bored with our fabulous hobby, can you?
Thanks for sharing with us at ATSM and I hope you will join with us again soon.
Wow, großartig!!! ich mag nicht nur Sonnenblumen, sondern auch Deine tollen Kartenvarianten!!
LG Gundi
Three BEAUTIFUL cards Susanne! I love the stamp you used...how wonderful to bring it out of storage and have fun with it again! I love the yellow/blue combination, but really like the 2nd card with the yellow/green too! My favorite though is the white on white background with the colorful sunflower taking center stage...just lovely!! Thanks so much for sharing all these beauties with us at CAS Watercolour!! :0)
Three beautiful cards, Susanne! Gotta love it when your experimentation worked out. Love the mosaic stenciling. And yes, I remember the huffing technique!!! 😂
Three lovely cards using the same image Susanne! They look like beautiful tiles sitting in the middle of the kraft backgrounds - love the stenciling behind them!
Three gorgeous sunflower cards, Susanne! Love the happy colors of the blue and yellow and I think the green is just as pretty! The kraft background with the subtle stenciling is rustic and perfect! I also love the third card with the stencil paste! WOW! Thanks so much for sharing these with us at CAS Watercolour!
Susanne, I can totally relate your "being curious how it will look when I ..."! I sometimes digress and end up with making different cards from my original plan (even when I'm pressed against time trying to make it to the submission due)! ;-P
All three cards have a different look and they're fantastic! Love that you used the mosaic style stencil, echoing the center piece.

So beautiful! Love the color and all that white space! Thanks for linking up to ATSM!
Really beautiful cards. Love all three versions, though the last is my favourite. Must be all the gorgeous texture and white space! Great to see you in the ATSM gallery. Nandini, DT
A gorgeous trio of sunflowers...and the frame around this pretty floral certainly reminds of the ceramic tile designs! I like each colorway you've done, but #1's bright blue with the subtle stenciling behind it, well, that might be my favorite of the 3! TFS
Love all three versions but I definitely lean more towards the blue - blue and yellow are such a happy combination. Great use of the stenciling behind the image panel. Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Watercolour!
love the look you achieved...so pretty mf.
xx Karen
Dein Mosaik-Look ist mal was ganz anderes, sieht echt spitzenmäßig aus.
